Therapeutic practice is designed to strengthen the foot, ankle, & core to reduce falls and resolve pain-related instability which can hamper our ability to participate in many activities that require quick motions, such as pickleball, tennis, and running. These integrated isometric exercises focus on hip mobility and backward bends as well as improving strength in the lower extremities to help feel more confident with standing balance.
This routine begins with a breathing practice to calm the mind. Next, practice several hip strengthening positions such as knee to chest, pigeon pose, cobra, bridge, and downward dog. Next, we move into the core exercises to strengthen the abs, glutes. and lower back.
Using a chair for balance, we can work on standing postures and place our focus on the foot and ankle without worrying about falling. This practice finishes with lower leg and foot strength training.
