Joseph Pilates, born in 1883 in Germany, founded the system of Pilates. Learn about his background is family, the reasons why he developed this famous 34 mat exercises. Joseph Pilates based his work on three principles: Breath, whole-body health and whole-body commitment; with the whole-body encompassing mind, body and spirit.
It is in the honoring of the Pilates Principles that the depth of the work is achieved. These principles of Pilates are traditionally cited as Breath, Concentration, Centering, Control, Precision, and Flow. Understand the difference between mat Pilates and the apparatuses such as the Reformer, Chair, Cadillac, Barrel, and Tower.
