The focus of a Yoga practice should be a strong, stable core. Ancient Yoga teaches that we are only as strong as our spine is flexible. However, flexibility comes from training trunk muscles to move the joints of the spine, hips, and shoulders to their greatest extent while honoring their structure and function. Back pain is so common and the industry for treating back pain is vast. However, with proper exercise we can prevent and manage back-related issues.
This video features many common Yoga positions and motions that are designed to target the muscles on the posterior aspect of the trunk by positioning the body in such a way to oppose gravity to create resistance. Adding free weights and elastic bands to the isometric resistance felt in Yoga poses creates even more challenge and also helps you to gain a better understanding of the poses themselves. Increased bone density, muscle strength, joint stability and range of motion is the result. You will notice better posture and improved breathing after you are finished! Enjoy a short relaxation segment to set the tone for the rest of your day.
